THE Kadayawan festivities in the city kicked off last week, and just as in previous celebrations, one of its highlight is the much coveted — and controversial — Hiyas ng Kadayawan.

In the previous years, each time the Hiyas was staged, various groups would clamor for its abolition as it allegedly violates the women’s code of the city.

From being a festival of thanksgiving for Davao's harvest and culture to becoming a gigantic, "commercial" celebration and now back to its indigenous roots, one can say that the Kadayawan Festival has truly come full circle.

A SPECTACULAR street dancing, a colorful parade of florally-dressed floats of various shapes and sizes, a food and musical extravaganza — these are just few of the most-awaited highlights of the celebration of Kadayawan sa Dabaw, which will kick off August 8.

Thousands of local and foreign tourists flock Davao City to celebrate with Dabawenyos a fun-filled festival, which depicts Davao’s rich cultural heritage.

6th MICT, BIMP-Eaga ICT gab launched here

THE 6th Mindanao Information and Communications Technology (MICT) Congress was officially launched Wednesday back-to-back with the first BIMP-Eaga ICT Conference, at the Grand Men Seng Hotel.

Andrei Joseph Fournier, MICT 2007 spokesman, said during the Club 888 press forum Wednesday that this is the first time Davao City will hold an ICT conference that will be participated not only by stakeholders from Mindanao, but also from Manila, USA, Japan, and Korea.

Forging ahead with MICT 07

THE 6th Mindanao ICT Congress, which will be held on October 23 and 24 2007, was formally launched Friday in simple ceremonies. Its website was also officially made public: www.mict2007.com.

This year's host, the Davao City Chamber of Commerce & Industry, is teamed up with the city's umbrella organization of IT associations, ICT Davao Inc.

Animation School to be set up in Davao City

A TOP official of a Manila-based company Wednesday said they are looking for an area in Davao City where they can establish an animation school in two months time.

Rhizaldy Reblora, president of the Another Level Consultancy Inc., said the animation school will be known as the Creative Vision Development Center, which will be set up in support for the animation studio that will also be established in the city in the first quarter of 2008.

IT issues to be discussed in 1st BIMP-Eaga ICT gab

INFORMATION and communications technology (ICT) stakeholders from both private and government sectors in BIMP-Eaga, including Australia, will discuss four major topics during the first BIMP-Eaga Information and Communications Technology (ICT) conference in October.

The topics include infrastructure development addressing digital divide issues; human capital development in BIMP-Eaga particularly in IT-related courses and jobs; investment promotions towards promoting BIMP-Eaga as an ICT hub; and innovation ecosystem advancement through sharing of experiences and good practices.
